I think a pike pole would have gone a long way here...
and finally... This one needs to go on the wall of shame and have a dumb*ss of the year award handed out. I thought we were getting smarter than this.
my comments continued.. Had the weight on the ladder been too much for the ice and it broke through, that firefighter was going head first into the water, in full bunker gear. Who would be rescuing him? The other firefighters on the shore also wearing full bunker gear?
I can't believe what I just watched! When we will ever stop trying to kill ourselves? 1st: A ladder placed on the ice but not laying flat on it, rather it is placing only the tip on the ice. The firefighter's weight and weight of the ladder is now totally concentrated on the tip, not spread out over the length of the ladder. 2nd: The firefighter wears bunker gear as he ventures out on the ladder. Not one person was wearing an ice rescue suit or any type of flotation device. Had the weight on the ladder been too much for the ice and it broke through, that firefighter was going head first into the water, in full bunker gear. Who would be rescuing him? The other firefighters on the shore also wearing full bunker gear? This one needs to go on the wall of shame and have a dumb*ss of the year award handed out. I thought we were getting smarter than this.
