Structure fire with flashover: helmet cam

Winter Park Fire Department in Colorado responds to a structure fire at 2:52 am on 12/03/11. Note the flashover that occurs, and the power line arcing. Dash cam and helmet cam footage.

You're right but the 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" handline are the go-to for the fire service at residential structure fires. This structure was well involved by the time they arrived creating way to many BTU's for the minimal flow from these lines. The fire had self-vented and had hold of at least half the structure. The 2.5" was a good choice to bring this under control. Good decision not to commit crews interior as the structure was probably unstable and unsavable. Risk nothing when there's nothing to sa...

It did not seem like the initial attack lines were doing anything except for feeding the flames from the dash cam and helmet cam views. Helmet cam guy's 2.5" line seemed to be the only one that actually extinguished the fire, and did it quickly. At least that is what it looked like - no darkening down until he opened up.
