Good work Chief. I would have blown up. The difference between people that have their own tools and, let's just say, us, is that they can negotiate the price for their service. Before they start working. Get it Councilman?
Another difference is we have extensive requirements for continuing education and training, irregular working hours and conditions and the opportunity to get hurt or killed. I’m just saying.

this is exactly whats wrong with every level of governemt people making decisions based on absolutley no knowledge of the everyday dangers that face those FF's everytime they go out. i hope it never happens but if a FF were to be injured i hope this video is played in the lawsuit against the city... which by the way would be for 100 times more than the 13000 dollars requested, thank god there were enough councilpersons there with half a brain to pass this motion.

Of course they should pay for their own gear! And, while we're at it, why do they ride free on engines? What's up with that? Install taxi meters, and charge those mooching firefighters for their commute to work! And why don't they pay for all that water they use, huh?

I believe Ohio is a Federal OSHA State. OSHA PPE Regulations require the employer to provide the PPE at no cost to the employee.
