Firefighters were involved in an amazing rescue in Rotherham on Nov. 1, 2009, after a man fell down his next door neighbors chimney. Incident Commander Neil Hessell said he had never seen an incident like it in over 27 years as a firefighter. The crew of fire service managers, who were staffing the Rotherham fire engine in place of striking firefighters, was called to the incident on St Johns Avenue, Masborough at 8.19pm. The initial report was to assist the Police and Ambulance services in their attempts to remove a man from the roof of the row of terraced houses. Area Manager Hessell said: We arrived to find a man in his 30s walking along the roof, throwing slates, chimney pots and television aerials onto the street below. Around six cars were damaged and there was a significant danger to the public so the street was cordoned off. Walking along the rooftops, the man eventually came to his own house before falling down the chimney breast on his next door neighbors side.

At about 1320 on Sunday April 12 2009 the Bergenfield Fire Department was dispatched to 73 River Edge Road for a garage fire. Upon the arrivial of DC1, fire was showing from the garage area of the house. As first arriving companies entered the block, a propane tank exploded/BLEVEd sending a chunk of the tank skipping across the street and hitting a house. Members made a quick stop of the fire preventing it from spreading to the attached house. A New Milford FAST Team along with engines from Hackensack and Teaneck responded to the scene while an engine from Dumont and an Englewood ladder covered the town. Companies were off the scene by 1530. Video by Alex Kneisler.

Major extrication from car

On Oct 29 2009 just after 11PM. Engine 31 arrived to find a single vehicle MVA and the car wrapped around a light pole. Firefighters worked tirelessly to free the woman from the wreckage, but this was a difficult task as the car was pinned against the pole and gave firefighters limited access. After removing the passenger door, windshield & roof, the crews jacked the car up and pushed the car away from the pole thus giving them the access they needed to free her. The patient was transported to RCH with minor injuries. Weather conditions and speed likely played a role in the crash.

Extrication after ambulance crash

Rescuers reported a near head-on collision between a pick up truck and an AMR ambulance. Investigation reveals the ambulance had two EMT's and an EMT student on board. As soon as the impact occurred the ambulance crew got out of their rig and began treating the adult male driving the pick up truck and two boys, approximate ages 10 years old, who were also in the truck. You can see the flashover at about 1:38 into the video. The Ogden Dunes, Ind., FD was dispatched to a reported attached garage on fire in a 1-story 25x75 house. On arrival a fully involved garage with extension to the house was reported. A 1st alarm was struck at the point, Engine 1511 stretched a 3 inch ground monitor and used foam for the fire attack. Just before crews were going to make an interior attack there was a flashover that blew windows out and engulfed every room in the house. It was later determined the house was under rehab, there were two workers in the house that made it out safe. Fire investigators from Porter County F.I.S.T. Team were on scene working. Nobody was injured at the fire scene.

R18 reported a structure fire at 6am while transporting a patient to the hospital. E18 arrived as the first due and attempted to make a push for the interior due to possible victims entrapped. LT on E18 witnessed the floor collapse and pulled the crew out.

On Tuesday morning, July 8th, at 2:28 AM, 911 received a call from the owner of a residential home at 37150 Watkins Ave in Sterling, Alaska, reporting flames coming from exterior walls & eves of their residence. The first arriving engine reported a two story, wooden building fully engulfed with fire. The incident was declared an exterior attack due to the building being fully engulfed. The residents attempted to extinguish the fire without success, while at the same time evacuating the home and calling 911 for help. No one was injured in the blaze, but the home and it's contents were lost.

TACOMA WASHINGTON OCTOBER 6, 2007 An explosion at the Atlas Foundry was set off by a delivery truck carying 8000 gallons of propane. The hose between the truck and the larger, stationary tanks suffered a "catastrophic failure" and the escaping gas was ignited by a furnace inside the nearby foundry. Four people were taken to a hospital, and the driver of the truck later died.

At approximately 10am the Crown Point Fire Department was dispatched to a report of an overturned Grayhound Bus with multiple casualties. On arrival a level 3 ems plan was implemented which brought ambulances from as far as Gary, Schererville, Saint John, and Hobart Indiana. There were a total of 25 plus ambulance transports and 15 plus additional via a school bus. The Lake County Hazmat Team was also requested for a large fuel spill which was seeping into the drainage system. Investigations continued for several hours

Large Grass Fire - Jan 29, 2008 - Denton, TX

Double Oak (Tx) VFD Brush 551 responds to a large grass fire in Denton, TX. A Red Flag Warning was issued on Jan 29th as high winds and low humidity helped to create several large and out of control fires around North Texas. Resources were slim as Brush 551 responded to this 100 acre fire with only one other brush truck. More resources arrived later in the incident. Video shows B-551 trying to stop the fire at a roadway and then action towards the head of the fire as it crossed the roadway to the west of where the truck was working. The fire finally stopped itself in a junk yard due to the terrain sloping down and railroad tracks crossing its path.

Working fire in Wallington, NJ

Wallington, NJ — On Sept, 1st 2007, around 6:30pm, the Wallington Fire Department was dispatched to Paterson & Dankoff Ave for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival the first arriving chief reported a fire on the outside wall of the house in a 3sty wood frame under construction. Upon further investigation it was found that the fire had extended into the exterior of the structure and with an aggressive interior attack a quick knock down was achieved. The Wallington FD made a great stop. The fire was placed under control about a half hour later. No injuries occurred, although the fire is under investigation it appears to be started accidentally by a plumber. Filmed by James Wood Sr.
