From Secret List: Lamesa and Andrews (Texas) Firefighters were operating at a tank fire last evening. They had water flowing, attempting to cool. At about 2 hours into it, a relief valve blew ...but then the tank and nearby tanks exploded and took off. The photographer was 200 yards away and a piece of 4" pipe about a foot and a half long with a cutoff valve on it came through the air in a high enough arc that it cleared the power lines next to him in impact the front of his vehicle, causing extensive damage.

Second floor hallway 72 hours after 15 y/o girl set High School on fire. 2 volunteer fire departments saved an attached Jr high,gym,science room,and home economics room. Fire went unreported for 4 hours. The school was built in 1929 and had no fire or smoke alarms. The asphalt roof fell into the second story 20 minutes after our arrival. Attack line went defensive one minute into the second floor entry and retreated during collapse.The fire could be seen 10 miles away. The arsonist set random fires in 7 of the 24 rooms, and the fire in the hallways were books and back packs. No injuries,thanks to good training and heads up for good team work.

There has been several incidents lately of firefighters falling thru floors, so when I reviewed the footage I put this video together for all of us and mostly probies. It was 2 a.m. and after being barely awake, I'm just glad I noticed the floor. If this helps anyone else out, that's great. In the beginning, the lighting is really low, There were no street lights or anything, but it will light up! This backdraft occurred after ventilation had been completed and heavy fire burned for over 20 minutes involving the structure as well as contents. In addition, heavy streams operated on the fire well before the backdraft occurred. We have experienced these types of building fires before. The large open spaces and concealed spaces allowed these gases to build up to explosive concentrations. Proper PPE certainly helped prevent injuries to our members. It was clear to us that this fire had been concealed within the walls and floor of this building and burning for a period of time before it was reported.
