FIT-5 Knocks Down Diesel Fire

The FIT-5 is extremely effective against Class B (diesel, gasoline, oil product, etc..) fires in contained spaces. In this video, Justice Institute of BC trainers ignited 60 liters of diesel in a mock large vessel engine room. The FIT-5 extinguished the fire in less than 20 seconds. The remaining diesel was re-ignited. The remaining powder from the FIT-5 extinguished the fire again.

At 2:13am GFD was toned out for a reported house on fire at Louisiana and Ridge Road, the header and glow were clearly visible from 80-94 and MLK. Crews had hydrant problems from the start, after a short exterior attack Truck 4 was used briefly to knock some of the fire down. Multiple lines were used and nobody was injured at the fire scene.

You can see the flashover at about 1:38 into the video. The Ogden Dunes, Ind., FD was dispatched to a reported attached garage on fire in a 1-story 25x75 house. On arrival a fully involved garage with extension to the house was reported. A 1st alarm was struck at the point, Engine 1511 stretched a 3 inch ground monitor and used foam for the fire attack. Just before crews were going to make an interior attack there was a flashover that blew windows out and engulfed every room in the house. It was later determined the house was under rehab, there were two workers in the house that made it out safe. Fire investigators from Porter County F.I.S.T. Team were on scene working. Nobody was injured at the fire scene.

LOWER TOWNSHIP-- Several fire departments responded to 11 Cormorant Way around 4:10 p.m. for a structure fire on Wednesday, July 15. The home was heavily damaged in the fire. No injuries were reported. The Cape May County chapter of the American Red Cross was requested to the scene to assist the displaced residents. The fire is under investigation by Lower Township Police.

Reportedly, the home owner spent several minutes fighting the fire with a garden hose before calling for the fire department. No firefighters were injured in the operation.

Fire works explosion - Enschede NL The Enschede fireworks disaster, called Vuurwerkramp (Dutch: literally, "fireworks disaster"), was caused by a fire which broke out in the SE Fireworks depôt on May 13, 2000, in the eastern Dutch city of Enschede. The fire led to an enormous explosion that left 22 people dead (including four firemen) and 947 injured.[1] The biggest blast was felt up to 30 kilometres from the scene. On Tuesday morning, July 8th, at 2:28 AM, 911 received a call from the owner of a residential home at 37150 Watkins Ave in Sterling, Alaska, reporting flames coming from exterior walls & eves of their residence. The first arriving engine reported a two story, wooden building fully engulfed with fire. The incident was declared an exterior attack due to the building being fully engulfed. The residents attempted to extinguish the fire without success, while at the same time evacuating the home and calling 911 for help. No one was injured in the blaze, but the home and it's contents were lost.

An aggressive interior attack was started then the deck gun took over. Nobody was hurt and arson investigators were on scene.

Wallington, NJ — On Sept, 1st 2007, around 6:30pm, the Wallington Fire Department was dispatched to Paterson & Dankoff Ave for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival the first arriving chief reported a fire on the outside wall of the house in a 3sty wood frame under construction. Upon further investigation it was found that the fire had extended into the exterior of the structure and with an aggressive interior attack a quick knock down was achieved. The Wallington FD made a great stop. The fire was placed under control about a half hour later. No injuries occurred, although the fire is under investigation it appears to be started accidentally by a plumber. Filmed by James Wood Sr.

Using your axe the wrong way

Using the flat side of your Axe can be much faster than the blade. Often the blade will wedge itself into the roof and you have to spend energy freeing it. By using the blunt side it creates a wide path that doesn't trap the axe. This works excellent on light weight roof construction with plywood decking. Richmond, CA Fire Academy instructor Marc Lucero is demonstrating on a pitched roof with 1/2" by 12" wood slats. It is a great technique for getting through plywood on boarded up windows and door too. Don't be afraid to use both sides of your axe.
