UPDATED: 8/09 Dozer used as protection from fire burn-over

This updated video has been corrected for current practices. CONTRACTORS ARE NOW TAUGHT TO NOT GO UNDER A MACHINE IN A BURN-OVER SITUATION. If the machine is engulfed in flames, it could potentially damage extremely hot hydraulic line, spilling oil on the operator and causing major burns. One of the best practices is to clear an area the flame height x4, park dozer in the middle, blade to flame and deploy shelter behind machine. The 1/2 throttle is to keep oils and coolant circulating to avoid overheating. You must make the decision well in advance of the fire running you over. Maintain good communications with your immediate line supervisor, division supervisor, or incident commander.
