Flashover at Ind. house

You can see the flashover at about 1:38 into the video. The Ogden Dunes, Ind., FD was dispatched to a reported attached garage on fire in a 1-story 25x75 house. On arrival a fully involved garage with extension to the house was reported. A 1st alarm was struck at the point, Engine 1511 stretched a 3 inch ground monitor and used foam for the fire attack. Just before crews were going to make an interior attack there was a flashover that blew windows out and engulfed every room in the house. It was later determined the house was under rehab, there were two workers in the house that made it out safe. Fire investigators from Porter County F.I.S.T. Team were on scene working. Nobody was injured at the fire scene.

Wow, why did they waste so much time? I appreciate the job that they did, but they could have snatched a 2in preconnect and had it ready for attack in less than a minute.

fiyaman - It's probably in their departments SOP's or GOG's to stretch a 2 1/2 line when on a Defensive attack for exposure / fire control. Some departments in my area do this as well.

Why did they waste so much time setting up a ground monitor? pulling a preconnected hand line would have been a lot faster.
